It began with three rather ordinary pieces of jewelry and one question: What could they become?

The answer turned out to be Between Violet & Blue.

The original pendant, earrings, and ring shared an intriguing quality—their focal stones seem reluctant to settle on a single color. What appears violet in one light can unexpectedly appear blue in another. Rather than trying to decide which color they really were, the entire collection grew around that mystery.

The 22-inch necklace came first. The original pendant was left intact, then surrounded by an evolving composition of tarnish-resistant silver-toned artisan wire, genuine amethyst, semiprecious stone and glass beads, sparkling glass crystals, faux pearls, iridescent tubular glass beads and silver-toned accents. A magnetic clasp completes the necklace.

The earrings followed, borrowing their elongated oval shape from the wire form surrounding the necklace pendant. The original color-shifting drops were given new life with hand-shaped silver-toned wire flourishes and a continuation of the amethyst, glass and faux-pearl details found in the necklace. Silver-toned leverback ear wires provide a secure finish.

The ring underwent its own transformation. Its original band was removed while the mysterious focal stone and setting were preserved. Sturdy silver-toned artisan wire was then worked through the setting to anchor it into an entirely new double-band ring, finished with graceful wire flourishes on either side.

Finally came the 6-inch cuff bracelet. Its sweeping oval wirework was reclaimed from an earlier handmade project that hadn't found its purpose—until now. The open loops became the framework for a strand of semiprecious stone, glass and crystal beads, faux pearls, iridescent tubular glass beads and silver-toned accents. Beginning with deep violet at the center, the colors shift through flashes of brilliant blue before softening into pale purples and lavenders toward the edges of the cuff—a gradual movement of color that echoes the Between Violet & Blue theme in a completely different way.

Four pieces created separately, each taking its cues from the one before it, until what began as a little jewelry demolition became one decidedly un-humdrum collection.
