It began with a perfectly nice pendant that needed a little more imagination.

The original pendant had one particularly intriguing quality: depending on the circumstances, its faceted stone seems to shift between shades of violet and blue. Rather than trying to decide which color it was supposed to be, I decided to give it both.

And then, as sometimes happens at my worktable, the necklace grew.

Tiny genuine amethyst beads mingle with semi-precious stones, glass and crystal in shades ranging from soft lavender and violet to flashes of brilliant blue. Faux pearls add creamy contrast, while silver-toned accents and hand-worked wire break the necklace into a series of small, individually detailed sections. Iridescent tubular glass beads carry that changeable quality right down toward the original pendant.

The pendant itself was left intact—the familiar piece that started the whole experiment, now surrounded by an entirely new design.

At approximately 22 inches long, this is a substantial necklace without being overly long, finished with an easy-to-use magnetic clasp.
